Hi Everyone! This is my Science Wiki Page:
Please Enjoy!
13/3/2012 - The 5 Kingdoms
Monera:
single-celled organisms without a nucleus (bacteria)
This is the largest group of organisms, and they are found everywhere
They are microscopic, and cannot be seen by the human eye
Some bacterias are good for our bodies, but others can make us sick
Protists:
single-celled organisms with a nucleus
They live in dark, damp places or in water
Some examples are algae, seaweed, amoeba and paramecium
There are two types- plant-like (which use photosynthesis to create food) and animal like (which feed on other organisms to survive)
Fungi:
motionless organisms that consume nutrients
They are not plants because they do not use photosynthesis
Some examples include mushrooms, moulds and yeasts
Plants:
contain chlorophyll, a green pigment which is necessary for the process of photosynthesis
Their cell walls are made sturdy by a material called cellulose.
They are fixed in one place.
There are two types: flower and fruit producing, and plants that do not produce flowers or fruit.
Animals:
most complex organisms
They are multi-celled
They eat food for survival
They have nervous systems
There are two types: vertebrates (have a backbone) and invertebrates (do not have a back bone)
They are divided into groups such as anthropods, mammals, amphibians, reptiles, birds and fish.
